Softball Readies for USF The Game Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida softball team (12-10) is set to compete in its fifth, and last, regular season tournament of the 2011 campaign at the USF The Game Tournament. The Ospreys will play five games at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The Ospreys will start the tournament off against Liberty (7-7) on Friday at noon and follow that game up with a battle against Quinnipiac (9-10). North Florida and Liberty will be meeting for the first time in program history. The Ospreys lead the all-time series, 1-0, over Quinnipiac. The two schools last met over a decade ago, however on March 16, 1996 with North Florida coming away with the victory, 6-2, at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
On Saturday, North Florida returns to action against Rutgers (10-10) at 12:30 p.m. before meeting Long Island (7-19) on the field at 5:30 p.m. for the team's nightcap. The meetings against Rutgers as well as Long Island will be a first for North Florida.
The North Florida squad wraps up its weekend competition on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. against UT-Chattanooga (16-5). The all-time series between the two schools is currently knotted at 1-1. The last meeting was in the Ospreys favor, winning 4-3 on Feb. 22, 2009 at the Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C.
