SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of North Florida baseball team continues its week-long road trip with a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series against USC Upstate beginning on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Charles A. Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C. The series concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
North Florida enters the weekend Atlantic Sun Conference series with a 7-8 overall record, while USC Upstate is 6-11 overall. The Ospreys are 1-5 in the A-Sun and the Spartans are 1-3 in conference play.
North Florida started the road trip with a 9-8 loss to UNC Wilmington before snapping its four game skid with an 11-7 victory over the Seahawks.
Over the weekend, the Ospreys dropped a series to Atlantic Sun Conference opponent East Tennessee State at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. North Florida fell 6-3 on Friday night, before being edged 6-5 on Saturday and 9-7 on Sunday.
North Florida and USC Upstate have met 31 times in school history with the Ospreys holding a decisive 29-2 (.935) advantage in the series. UNF is 11-1 (.917) all-time in Spartanburg.
Last season, the Ospreys swept the three-game series with the Spartans in Jacksonville. North Florida had little trouble completing the sweep, winning 16-3 (7 inn.), 14-0 and 10-0.
USC Upstate is the second team this season the Ospreys will face from South Carolina. North Florida opened the season against Charleston Southern. UNF won the first series winning two of the three games against the Buccaneers. Both series against teams from the Palmetto State have been played in South Carolina.
Scouting the Opposition:
After falling to Charleston Southern by a score of 15-13 on Wednesday, the USC Upstate baseball team continues its five-game homestand against North Florida.
Austin Liput led the Spartans on Wednesday. Against the Bucs, the junior had four hits including his first homer of the season. He finished with three RBI and scored twice. Dillon Way also had a solid day against Charleston Southern as he had three hits and four RBI, including a bases clearing double in the top of the first inning.
