Baseball Looks to Rebound Against UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of North Florida baseball team will look to rebound from a three-game losing streak with a midweek non-conference series against UNC Wilmington. The series is slated to begin on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:00 p.m. at Brooks Field. The two teams will also play on Wednesday, March 16, at 6:00 p.m.

Fans will be able to follow the game via live stats.

North Florida enters the midweek series with a 7-8 overall record, while UNC Wilmington is 10-5 overall.

Over the weekend, the Ospreys dropped a series to Atlantic Sun Conference opponent East Tennessee State at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. North Florida fell 6-3 on Friday night, before being edged 6-5 on Saturday and 9-7 on Sunday.

North Florida and UNC Wilmington have never met on the baseball diamond. The Ospreys are 5-3 overall against current members of the Colonial Athletic Association.

Most recently against the CAA, UNF played James Madison three times last season. The Ospreys lost 12-6 against the Dukes on March 5, 2010, before claiming a 22-19 victory over JMU on March 12, 2010. In the final meeting between the two teams, James Madison downed North Florida 14-7.

The Ospreys enter the midweek series with a 5-4 record against teams with a bird for a mascot. North Florida opened a 13-game homestand with a pair of victories over Liberty who features an Eagle as its mascot. After a win against the Georgia Southern Eagles, the Ospreys recorded victories over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and the Wagner Seahawks.

UNC Wilmington is the second consecutive set of seahawks North Florida matches up against in a midweek series. Last week, UNF played host to the Wagner Seahawks. The Ospreys won the first game against Wagner 12-0, but saw the second game of the series get rained out.

Scouting the Opposition:

UNC Wilmington enters the midweek nonconference series with a 10-5 overall record. Over the weekend, the Seahawks swept Northeastern in their Colonial Athletic Association opener.

UNCW junior catcher/outfielder Thomas Pope hit .632 (12-for-19) and drove in nine runs and was named CAA Player-of-the-Week as UNCW posted a perfect 5-0 mark on the week including a sweep of Northeastern to open conference play.
