
UNF Set to Battle JU in River City Rumble

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is set to do battle with crosstown Atlantic Sun Conference rival Jacksonville on Tuesday, Feb. 8 in the second match-up between the two teams in this season's River City Rumble “Battle of the Barrel.” Game time is slated for 5 p.m. at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
UNF (10-12, 8-5 A-Sun) has won eight of its last nine games and is on a four game win streak entering into Tuesday evening's game. The Ospreys defeated Belmont, 61-56 in their last outing. Sophomore Taylor Smith led a balanced UNF attack with 15 points. Brittany Kirkland and Jadhken Kerr added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Larkira Jones pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and tallied a career-high six blocks.
Kirkland leads the Ospreys on the season with 15.2 points per game while Smith is adding 8.3 and Kerr is tallying 7.3 points per game. Jones is grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game and is posting a conference-best 2.1 blocks per game. Senior Juliemay Syquio is handing out 3.5 assists while adding 7.2 points per game.
The Dolphins (11-11, 6-7 A-Sun) are led by a quartet of players averaging double figures. Taneskei Richardson leads the way with 11.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. GiGi Thomas is adding 10.8 points per game while Crystal Bell is adding 10.2 points per game. Lynsey Paschal is tallying 10.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Jacksonville defeated Lipscomb, 74-59 in the Dolphins' last contest.
JU leads the all-time series, 8-4, but UNF has won the past three meetings between the two teams including a 58-44 win earlier this season at UNF Arena. Kirkland had 24 points in the game and Syquio added 10. Jones grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Thomas tallied 20 points for the Dolphins.
The game will be shown on Comcast Sports Southeast that night at 9:30 p.m., but will be available live via A-Sun.TV.
Following Tuesday's game, the Ospreys will remain on the road to face East Tennessee State on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
