
Ospreys Set to Battle Belmont

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will host Belmont on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. The Atlantic Sun Conference contest is a doubleheader with the UNF men's team who will face the Bruins in a 7 p.m. tip-off.
UNF (9-12, 7-5 A-Sun) defeated Lipscomb, 58-46 the last time out and have won seven of its last eight games. Freshman Jade Givens hit a career-high 14 points to lead a balanced UNF attack. Jadhken Kerr and Brittany Kirkland added nine points each while Larkira Jones grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and tallied a career-high tying five blocks.
Kirkland leads the team on the season with 15.3 points per game. Taylor Smith is adding 7.8 points per game while Juliemay Syquio is adding 7.2 points per game and handing out 3.6 assists per game. Kerr is connecting on 7.1 points per game. Jones is grabbing 8.8 rebounds per game while blocking 1.95 shots per game.
Belmont (7-16, 4-10 A-Sun) fell to JU on Thursday night, 68-57. Haley Nelson leads the Bruins with 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Molly Ernst is adding 10.4 points per game.
The Bruins lead the all-time series, 7-3 and picked up a 65-48 win earlier this season in Nashville. Smith had 14 points for the Ospreys and Syquio grabbed seven rebounds. Nelson led the Bruins with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Cacy Burtnett added 16 points.
UNF will be back on the road following Saturday's game when the Ospreys make the short crosstown trip to face Jacksonville on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
