
Ospreys to Host Owls in Home Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will host foe Kennesaw State on Sunday, Feb. 20 at noon in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at UNF Arena. The game marks the home finale for the Ospreys and the team will honor its seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Honorees include Juliemay Syquio and DeAdria Hilliard. The game is being televised on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS).
The Ospreys (12-14, 10-7 A-Sun) are coming off a, 70-49, win over Mercer on Friday evening. Sophomore Larkira Jones tallied 18 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks and two steals to lead UNF. Junior Brittany Kirkland added 17 points and Syquio had nine assists and freshman Jade Givens notched three steals.
Kirkland is leading UNF on the season with 14.6 points per game. Sophomore Taylor Smith is adding 8.3 and Syquio is putting up 7.3 points and dishing out 3.62 assists per game. Jones is pulling down 9.3 rebounds and tallying a conference-best 2.19 blocks per game.
Leading the Owls (8-17, 5-12 A-Sun) is Angie Smith with 14.2 points per game and handing out a team-best 3.16 assists per game. Sametria Gideon is averaging a double-double on the season with 12.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while Ashley Holliday is adding 9.6 points per game.
Kennesaw State holds the all-time series record at 17-11. UNF and KSU were longtime foes at the Division II level before both joined the Atlantic Sun.
The Owls claimed a win at home earlier this season, defeating UNF, 54-50, while UNF won the game in Jacksonville last season, 68-51. In the game at KSU back in January, Kirkland tallied 16 points and Jones grabbed 10 rebounds.
UNF will wrap up the 2010-11 regular season on the road. The Ospreys will travel to Stetson on Thursday, Feb. 24 and to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Feb. 26.
