
Ospreys to Host Bears in Annual PinkZone Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is set to host Mercer University in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. in the team's annual PinkZone Game to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the fight against breast cancer.
UNF (11-14, 9-7 A-Sun) is looking to bounce back after a pair of losses over the weekend. Leading the Ospreys on the season is junior Brittany Kirkland with 14.5 points per game. Sophomore Taylor Smith is adding 8.5 points per game and grabbing 4.3 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Jadhken Kerr is posting 7.5 points per game while senior Juliemay Syquio is tallying 7.4 points per game. Sophomore Larkira Jones is pulling down a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game while notching an A-Sun best 2.12 blocks per game.
The Bears (2-23, 2-14 A-Sun) fell to Stetson in their last outing. Mercer is being led this season by Briana Williams with 17.9 points per game. Brittnee Hazel is averaging 11.0 points while Sharmesia Smith is grabbing 7.8 blocks per game.
UNF leads the series 7-5 and won the meeting earlier this season, 56-54 at the University Center in Macon, Ga. Jones led the Ospreys with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Syquio added nine points. Williams notched 15 points for the Bears in the game.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a charitable organization committed to being a part of the finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Yow was the head coach at N.C. State University and battled breast cancer three times before passing away in 2009 at the age of 66. UNF will be running promotions throughout the game to raise donations for the Kay Yow Fund.
Following Friday's game, the Ospreys will be back on the court on Sunday, Feb. 20 when they host Kennesaw State. Tip-off is slated for noon and the game will be televised on CSS-TV.
