
SunTrust River City Rumble Hoops Edition Set for Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida basketball team brings a three-game win streak into its Atlantic Sun Conference opener Saturday against crosstown rival Jacksonville at Noon in UNF Arena. The first of two games between the pair this season in the annual SunTrust River City Rumble series will be televised live on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).
The Ospreys (4-4) outlasted Bethune-Cookman Tuesday to earn their fifth consecutive home win and remain a perfect 4-0 in UNF Arena this year. The Dolphins (2-4) dropped their last two contests having played a pair of nationally-ranked opponents.
Saturday's game marks the 16th all-time meeting between the crosstown foes on the hardwood with JU owning a 13-2 advantage in the series. In the last meeting between the pair, UNF posted a 68-64 victory in the opening round of the 2011 A-Sun Tournament snapping an 11-game losing skid in the series.
Jacksonville boasted a 2-1 mark versus UNF last year in three competitive meetings decided by a combined total of nine points. North Florida's only other win in the series was a 90-78 decision in 2005-06.
North Florida is 1-5 all-time in Atlantic Sun openers after earning their first win in a league debut last season, 81-74 over Florida Gulf Coast.
Jerron Granbery (10.9 ppg) and Parker Smith (10.5 ppg) lead the Ospreys in scoring this season. The duo has combined to hit 30 of the team's 35 made three-pointers this season. Smith helped seal UNF's win on Tuesday making four free throws in the closing seconds.
Andy Diaz leads the team in rebounding at 5.4 per game followed closely by Travis Wallace at 5.3 rpg. Will Wilson, who dished out a season best five assists against Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, tops the squad with 2.8 assists per contest.
The Ospreys are 29-85 in six years of play in the Atlantic Sun conference including an 18-22 mark in the past two seasons under head coach Matthew Driscoll. UNF boasted a 10-10 league mark a year ago and advanced to the conference tournament championship game as the No. 6-seed. The Ospreys and Dolphins were picked to finish third/fourth in the preseason rankings.
