
UNF to Wrap Up Road Swing at KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will wrap up its Georgia road swing on Monday, Jan. 24 in a 7 p.m. contest against Kennesaw State at KSU Convocation Center in Kennesaw, Ga.
UNF (6-11, 4-4 A-Sun) is riding a four game win streak into the match-up after edging Mercer, 56-54 on Saturday on a last second mid-range jumper from sophomore Jadhken Kerr. Fellow sophomore Larkira Jones led the Ospreys in the game with her third double-double of the season and her second in as many games, recording 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Leading UNF on the season is junior Brittany Kirkland with 15.1 points per game. Sophomore Taylor Smith is adding 7.7 points while senior Juliemay Syquio is notching 7.6 points per game while handing out 3.3 assists per game. Jones is pulling down a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game and tallying a league-leading 1.8 blocks per game.
Kennesaw State (4-12, 1-7 A-Sun) defeated JU, 71-69 in its last outing. Leading the Owls in 2010-11 is Angie Smith with 14.1 points per game. Sametria Gideon is adding 11.4 points per game and pulling down a team-high 9.6 rebounds per game. Ashley Holliday is adding 7.7 points per game.
KSU holds the all-time series record at 16-11. The Ospreys have faced the Owls 27 times, which is more than the Ospreys have played any other team in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The series dates back to Dec. 7, 1994 when UNF secured a 66-54 win over KSU.
Last season the two teams split results with each team winning on its respective home court. KSU won 63-59 at home while UNF picked up the 68-51 victory at UNF Arena. Kirkland averaged 18.5 points per game against the Owls last season and Syquio added 13.5 points per game against the Owls while grabbing 8.0 rebounds per game.
