“It's nice to be able to represent UNF in this way and to be selected to the Atlantic Sun Second Team,” said Torre.
Finishing the season just below the .300 mark, Torre was one of the most vital offensive and defensive players, putting together her best season as an Osprey.
Torre led the team in batting average (.291), RBI (25), on base percentage (.352) and had one of the highest fielding percentages on the team. The
While starting 51 games this season at first base, Torre was second on the team in putouts committing only four errors on the season.
Seeing the majority of her at-bats from the three-hole, Torre was known for coming through in pressure situations. She hit .333 with runners in scoring position and .429 with bases loaded.
On April 9, Torre recorded a walk-off single to beat conference opponent USC Upstate. In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 1-1, Torre ripped the ball down the left field line against the nation's No. 1 ranked pitcher at the time in ERA (0.62), for the win.
“I think this has been a credit to Coach Janice [Savage],” commented Torre. “Since she came here this season, she has really worked with me one-on-one and has helped me become a smarter and more confident hitter at the plate, which I think has translated to my success.”
This season Torre added .118 points to her batting average, after hitting .173 last season. She produced 21 RBI after driving in just four RBI in 2008.
Receiving an A-Sun All-Academic award last season, Torre is now one of five Ospreys to have received the second team all-conference award. Senior Devyn Findley (2008), Heather Hyde (2008), Ashley Parenteau (2006) and Gwen Williams (2008) are the other second team winners.
