
Baseball Gears Up for Full Week

UNF baseball opens the week at No. 2 Florida State before completing play in the Kennel Club Classic
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team is set for four games this week. The Ospreys begin the week at No. 2 Florida State before completing play in the Kennel Club Classic over the weekend.
UNF travels to Tallahassee, Fla. on Wednesday, March 10 to take on the Seminoles at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The game is set for 4 p.m. and is the make up game for the game on Feb. 24 that was rained out.
The Ospreys return home on Thursday, March 11 to continue play in the 2010 Kennel Club Classic. North Florida will once again take on James Madison in a game set for 1 p.m. The Dukes downed the Ospreys, 12-6, in the opening game of the Kennel Club Classic on Friday, March 5.
North Florida continues the tournament on Saturday, March 13 with a pair of games. The Ospreys will play host to Illinois State at 1 p.m. before closing out their portion of the tournament with a 4 p.m. game against James Madison. For complete tournament schedule and results, click here.
UNF enters the week 6-6 after going 5-1 last week. The Ospreys scored 64 runs in six games (10.7 per game) en route to five wins. As a team, UNF batted .385 on the week with 27 extra base hits, including 16 doubles, three triples and 8 home runs. The Ospreys extended their streak of consecutive games with 10 or more hits to nine. For the season, UNF has recorded 10 double-digit hit performances out of 12 games.
North Florida was led offensively by Preston Hale, who was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week for his efforts. The senior outfielder led the team in batting average (.593), slugging percentage (1.000), on-base percentage (.600), hits (16), runs (11), doubles (4), triples (2) and RBIs (10). Hale hit safely in all six games on the week, recording five multiple hit games, including a game with four hits and three games with three hits. The Lakeland, Fla. native had three multi-RBI games, driving in four runs on the road at UCF and three runs in UNF's come from behind victory versus Wagner. The criminal justice major had 27 official at bats and 30 plate appearances with just one strikeout.
On the mound, Robbie Collier picked up a pair of wins on the week, both in relief, while he tossed 7.1 innings total with a 3.68 ERA. The junior scattered eight hits with just three runs. Collier struck out seven batters, including a career-high five strikeouts against Georgia Southern. Senior John Atteo boasted a 0.00 ERA on the week tossing 6.0 innings without allowing an earned run and fellow senior Michael Smith led all Ospreys with 13 strikeouts, fanning a career high nine batters against JMU. Junior George Lott also boasted a pair of wins last week, claiming the win in relief against UCF and throwing seven strong innings against Wagner.
