UNF Softball Home Opener Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida softball team will host its 2010 home opener in a doubleheader against Troy on Tuesday, Feb. 16, starting at 3 p.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys (1-4) enter into this week's games after playing in the Combat Classic last weekend in Miami, Fla. North Florida came away from the five-game tournament with one win.

UNF's first win of the season came on the shoulders of senior Devyn Findley who struckout 14, through seven innings of work, to blank Providence in day two of the tournament. Not only did Findley throw strong but she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

On day three, UNF came within one run of tying FIU in the fifth inning with a two-run home run by junior Caroline Torre, but closed out the weekend's tournament with a 5-4 loss to FIU.

Troy opens up its 2010 season on the road after having its home opener canceled because of four inches of snow that fell over the weekend.

Last season Troy went 38-19 overall and went 15-8 in the Sun Belt. The Trojans' record was good enough for a second place finish in the regular season standings.

The Trojans return its two NFCA All-Region players in junior pitcher Ashlyn Williams and senior shortstop Kala Moore.
