
Women’s Basketball to Host Annual Holiday Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is set to host the 2010 Comfort Inn Osprey Holiday Classic, Dec. 18-19. In addition to the host team, Troy, Bethune-Cookman and UMKC will also be competing.
The tournament kicks off UNF's Dollar Game events for the month of December. All UNF women's basketball home games will be a dollar during the month of December in conjunction with the Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Grant.
UMKC (3-7) and Bethune-Cookman (3-4) will get the tournament started at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18. The Ospreys (1-7) will take the court at 3 p.m. against Troy (2-7). On Sunday, Dec. 19, UMKC and Troy will tip-off at 1 p.m. with the Ospreys and the Wildcats to follow at 3 p.m.
Leading UNF this season is junior Brittany Kirkland with 14.6 points per game. Senior Juliemay Syquio is averaging 8.0 points per game while dishing out 3.25 assists per game. Sophomore Larkira Jones is grabbing team-best 7.1 rebounds per game.
Troy is led by a trio of players averaging double-digits. Donette McNair is tossing in 14.6 points per game while pulling down 10.3 rebounds per game. DeAngela Sword is adding 12.4 points per game followed by Kristen Smith with 10.0 points per game. Sophie Kleeman has handed out 32 assists this season.
This is the first meeting between the two teams. The Ospreys are 1-5 against teams from the SunBelt Conference all time. UNF picked up a 63-61 win over Florida Atlantic earlier this season.
Leading BCU is Demetria Frank with 15.4 points per game. Jasmine Daniels is averaging 10.1 points per game. Cleniece Roberts is grabbing a team high 8.5 rebounds per game.
BCU holds the slight 4-3 advantage over the Ospreys in the all-time series. UNF picked up the last win, defeating BCU, 75-57 last season at UNF Arena.
UMKC is led by Dayon Hall-Jones with 12.6 points per game. Kim Nezianya is pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game. Eilise O'Connor has tallied 28 assists this season.
The Ospreys will return to UNF Arena after the holidays to host Long Island on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. and will be part of the Dollar Game event.
