JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team is set to face USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Atlantic Sun action. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Hodge Center.
The game will also be available for viewing online via ASun.tv.
“We need to keep progressing and build upon our win over JU,” said head coach Mary Tappmeyer. “On Saturday, we're going to have to come out ready to play a better game than we did last time against Upstate. We are going to have to put together a complete game from start to finish.”
UNF (6-14, 3-8 A-Sun) is coming off a win over crosstown rival Jacksonville University. The Ospreys defeated the Dolphins 58-50 on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at UNF Arena. Sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland tallied a team-high 16 points. Freshman forward Jadhken Kerr added eight points while pulling down a game and career-high 11 rebounds. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol posted eight points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Kirkland leads the team on the season, averaging 14.8 points per game while dishing out 5.4 assists per game. Cherizol is notching 8.4 rebounds per game.
The Spartans (12-7, 6-4 A-Sun) are led by Chelsea McMillan with 14.3 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Kendra Wallace is adding 10.2 points per game.
UNF leads the all-time series 11-4, but Upstate picked up the 70-58 win on Jan. 21 at UNF Arena. Kirkland had 12 points in the game while junior guard Julilemay Syquio added 11 points. Cherizol grabbed 15 rebounds in the game. Upstate's Tee'Ara Copney led all scorers with 29 points.
