The loss dropped UNF to 9-9 overall and 4-4 in A-Sun play, while Lipscomb improved to 9-8 and 6-2 in the league.
The North Florida men and women will now head across town for a Martin Luther King holiday double-header with crosstown rival
The UNF Athletic Department, in conjunction with The Boathouse, will host a men's basketball game viewing party at The Boathouse on Monday, Jan. 18, for the sold-out game at JU. The Boathouse will open at 7:30 p.m. to watch the 8 p.m. game between the Ospreys and the Dolphins. The Boathouse features 10 televisions for easy viewing. In addition, The Boathouse will offer a special game night menu and $2 drafts.
UNF led by three three minutes into the game before the Bison went up five with 14:15 left in the first half. The Ospreys closed the gap and went up two, 23-21, with 7:48 left in the half. It was still a one point game at 26-25 Lipscomb with 6:14 in the half before the Bison made a 15-4 run over the final 6:14 to take a 12-point lead into the locker room at 41-29.
The Ospreys were able to cut the lead to nine at 44-35 with 17:23 to play but Lipscomb gradually built its lead and pulled away in the second half for the win.
Freshman Jerron Granberry led UNF with 13 points, while freshman forward Andy Diaz had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Brad Haugabrook tied for a game-high four assists.
“They did a great job doing what they do,” said Driscoll. “We weren't quite where we needed to be and some of the adjustments we made didn't make a difference and it's one of those things where you can't let one thing lead to another, you've got to move on to the next right thing. I tell that to our guys all the time. So we won eight of our last 10, three of our last four in the league and you know what, we play JU on Monday night. That's the great thing about basketball compared to football. Football you have to live with that for a week, at least now we can move on to tomorrow and watch this film and move on and we've got JU. They have won five in a row so obviously it's a huge game in the conference and it is that, it's a huge game in the conference and we have to be prepared on Monday night 8 p.m.”
“Lipscomb is a great team and they did what they had to do,” said Granberry. “You can't take away anything from them. We just have to get better and practice every day. You can't dwell on this loss, like coach said, we have to look at the game film and go to practice tomorrow and get ready for JU.”
Single-game tickets for basketball games are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. One ticket will admit you to both the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. games on those days. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $5 and limited to one per student. If you are unable to attend the games they can be seen on ASun.tv.
