Men’s Soccer to Host Pair of Exhibition Matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-University of North Florida men's soccer team is set to play a two exhibition matches next week at Hodges Stadium. The Ospreys open up the week with a Monday night contest against Rollins College at 6 p.m., before playing host to Middle Georgia on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Admission to the two matches is free.

UNF opened up the 2009 campaign with an exhibition match in Savannah, Ga., against the Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday, Aug. 20. The two teams battled evenly for 90-minutes to a 0-0 tie.

“I thought it was a good match for us,” head coach Ray Bunch remarked about the exhibition match against SCAD. “We have only been together for a couple of days so I thought we played extremely well.

“We played quite a few players,” Bunch continued. “Practice is good, but there is no substitute for actual match experience.”

The Ospreys are balanced this season with a good mix of returning players and newcomers. Bunch will use these two matches to get players minutes and real match play experience before starting the regular season.

The regular season for UNF begins in Orlando as the Ospreys take part in the UCF Fall Classic against host UCF on Friday, Sept. 4, and Iona on Sunday, Sept. 6. The first regular season home match for North Florida is slated for Friday, Sept. 18, against Georgia State at 5 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
