A-Sun series begins at 7 p.m. on Friday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida baseball team will return to conference action this weekend when Belmont pays a visit to Harmon Stadium for a three-game set.
The series will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and will wrap up with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. UNF won the last series between the teams in Jacksonville, 2-1, which happened in 2007, but Belmont got the better of it last season with a 3-0 sweep of the Ospreys. The Ospreys won the first meeting between the two in 2005, 11-7, in Jacksonville.
UNF fell twice during the week to FIU - 10-6 on Tuesday and 3-0 on Wednesday - after getting swept 3-0 last weekend by Florida Gulf Coast. The Ospreys hit .319 against FIU but left 21 on base. The Golden Panthers hit .329 against UNF pitching. Both senior Brian Wilson and junior TJ Thompson hit .500 for the series.
Belmont has won four of its last five, including a three-game sweep of A-Sun foe East Tennessee State last weekend in Nashville. The Bruins split their two-game midweek slate with an 8-4 win over Samford on Tuesday and an 11-7 loss to Vanderbilt on Wednesday. Derek Wiley leads Belmont with seven home runs and 23 RBIs.
