The Lady Ospreys had several outstanding events at this weekend's Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., preparing the team for the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track Championships.
Brooke Baumann had the best finish of any Osprey, taking first in the mile by over five seconds. Behind here were teammates Erin Heasley (6th) and Laura Ragland (7th).
Anne DelBovo was the athlete to watch for the meet. In her second pole vault ever she took sixth place, simultaneously setting a UNF record of 3.35m for indoor pole vaulting and sending her to the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Anne also set a personal best record for her third place finish in the triple jump, putting her at second place for the conference.
Other Lady Ospreys found success on the field as well. In the 55m hurdles, Rachel Stanley also set a UNF record (8.89 seconds), winning her heat. Charisma Anderson sped to personal bests in both the 200m and 55m dash, just missing school records and securing ninth and 11th place finishes, respectively. Christina King advanced to the finals of the women's triple jump, competing for the first time of her college career and finishing in seventh place. In the 800m, Kayla Conrad and Evelyn Moore finished in seventh and eighth, respectively
The men also found success in Gainesville. In the 800m race, Cameron Dickerson took an impressive fourth place finish after winning his heat with a time of 1:55.88. Johnathan Esteban took sixth in the mile with a time of 4:22.39, A new personal record. Johnathan was followed by Chris Fulcher in ninth and Mike Strasser in 16th.
Bad luck potentially cost the Ospreys an impressive win in the 3k by Will Pearce, who was cut off by a spectator after leading the field for the entire race. Pearce finished second in his heat and eighth overall.
Assistant Coach Julie Stackhouse said about the meet "We are pleased with the improvements we saw in this meet across the board. We will be fine tuning both physically and mentally these next two weeks in preparation for the most important meet of our indoor season, the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Championships."
The Ospreys will have two weeks to prepare for the championships before they head off to Johnson City, Tenn. For the conclusion of the indoor track season.
