Jacksonville, Fla.- The Ospreys fought hard in the final day of the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track Championships, setting several school records and posting several All-Conference results. The Osprey men's team took seventh and the women took fifth.
Anne DelBovo became conference champion in the pole vault, beating her competition by almost half a meter in the preliminaries and winning the finals. Her teammates Morgan McCorkle and Cassie Bruce tied for third place, making All Conference together.
Kayla Conrad also had a great day, finishing second in the 800m and making All-Conference. Teammate Evelyn Moore came in just behind her in eighth.
Success was not restricted to the Lady Ospreys, however. Will Pearce also took an All-Conference third place finish in the mile, leading his teammates Johnathan Esteban and Chris Fulcher in ninth and 17th places, respectively.
In addition to placing well in several events, the Ospreys also pushed their own limits, setting personal and school records for their events. In the 200m, Charisma Anderson set a new school record for her 25.39s sprint and finished tenth. Ashton McGuire also set a new record for the weight throw with her toss of 9.7m.
Cameron Dickerson had a good run in the 800m, taking sixth place. In the men's mile, Johnathan Esteban took eighth, leading his teammates Mike Strasser and Will Pearce in 12th and 13th, respectively. Strasser also had a fourteenth place finish in the 5000m.
In the women's mile, Brooke Baumann took fifth place out of 24, leading teammates Erin Heasley and Laura Ragland in 11th and 13th, respectively.
The women also had a strong showing in the 4x400m relay, taking fifth place with a team of Rachel Stanley, Charisma Anderson, Anne DelBovo and SaLydia James.
Assistant coach Julie Stackhouse said of the meet, "We are proud of the teams' combined efforts this weekend. We had several All-Conference selections, school records and personal bests in nearly every event. Each athlete competed to the best of his/her abilities and left it all out on the track. We can't ask for more than this. We battled to the very end, finishing only five points shy of Belmont. We look forward to opening up the outdoor season by hosting our conference foes at home in two weeks."
