
UNF Women’s Basketball to Host Holiday Classic

TOURNAMENT NOTES
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will host the 2009 Hampton Inn & Suites Osprey Holiday Classic, Dec. 17-18. In addition to the host team, Jacksonville State, South Carolina State and Savannah State will also be competing.
Jacksonville State (1-7) and Savannah State (7-4) will get things started in the 3 p.m. game on Dec. 17. The Ospreys (1-7) will take the court at 5 p.m. against South Carolina State (4-4). On Friday, Dec. 18, Jacksonville State and S.C. State will play the 3 p.m. game followed by UNF against Savannah State at 5 p.m.
Leading UNF this season is sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland who is averaging 13.6 points and 3.8 assists per game. Junior guard Juliemay Syquio is posting 9.3 points per game. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol is leading on the boards with 7.5 rebounds per game.
South Carolina State is being led by Sophilia Hipps with 18.1 points and 3.9 assists per game. Joi Walker is adding 10.9 points per game while pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game. Paris Alston is notching a team leading 6.6 rebounds per game.
This is the first meeting between UNF and South Carolina State. The Ospreys are 4-4 against teams from the MEAC including a win over Bethune-Cookman earlier this season.
Leading Savannah State is Crissa Jackson with 9.9 points per game. Darice Fountaine is adding 9.1 points per game while Alisha Nelson is pulling down a team best 7.1 boards per game.
UNF holds the 4-3 advantage in the all-time series over Savannah State. The Tigers picked up the 53-42 win in the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 20, 2008 in Savannah, Ga. UNF's last win came on Jan. 2, 2007 when it beat SSU 56-47 at UNF Arena.
Jacksonville State's leading scorer this season is Zenobia Pitts with 9.1 points per game. Jolie Efezokhae is adding 8.3 points per game while pulling down a team-high 4.6 rebounds per game.
Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. One ticket will admit you to both the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. games on those days. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free.
