JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will face Bethune-Cookman in the 2009-10 home opener for the Ospreys on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in UNF Arena.
UNF has played a tough schedule to open the season, having faced two top-25 teams in the ACC's Florida State (No. 12) and the Big East's Pittsburgh (No. 22) as well as South Florida. The Ospreys had USF on the ropes leading at one point midway through the second half, but the Bulls were able to go on a run to hold off UNF.
Leading the Ospreys (0-3) is sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland at 11.7 points per game. Junior guard Juliemay Syquio is adding 8.3 points and 3.7 assists per game. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol is posting 6.7 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats (1-2) are led by Jalisa Isaac at 13 points per game. Jasmine Daniels is adding nine points and 4.3 assists per game. Sarah Bolden is pulling down 11.7 rebounds.
This is the seventh meeting between the two teams. BCU won last season's game in Dayton Beach, Fla., 68-56. Redshirt freshman Jadhken Kerr led the Ospreys with 12 points. UNF's last win against the Wildcats was during the 2007-08 season when the Ospreys defeated the Wildcats 62-43.
Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $5 and limited to one per student. If you are unable to attend the game it can be seen on ASun.tv.
