Weekend Brings Alumni Together

“We had a great turnout for this year's alumni game,” said head coach Marcie Hickey. “It was nice to have so many alumni and their families back for this annual event. We greatly appreciate their continued support of the UNF softball program and look forward to having them back during our spring season.”
For these softball players coming back to UNF's campus and being able to step back on the Ospreys' field brought back all too familiar memories for these former student-athletes.
During the course of the game the Ospreys' softball team saw some of UNF's all-time career record holders in Saturday's game.
Gwen Williams (2005-08) is currently tied for first in career home runs (28), RBI (140), and is second in hits (206). Ashley Parenteau (2005-08), who was a teammate and roommate of Williams, is also tied for first all-time in home runs (28).
The Alumni team added a new face to their lineup with former player and current assistant coach Ashley Battaglia (2008-09). After coming off an impressive senior year leading the Ospreys in runs (24), hits (61), doubles (25), RBI's (35) and home runs (six) she added some needed offense to the Alumni squad.
Throughout the game the Alumni saw some superb pitching by senior Devyn Findley who is UNF's career leader in strikeouts with 623. After two innings of work sophomore Shaina Dent then came into close out the game.
The Alumni had a few tricks up their sleeves during the course of the game, consisting of a 12-player defensive shift and their ability to sneak runners on base without the umpire's knowledge.
Tori Ahern (2005-08), Katie Brosky (2006-07) and Randalyn Rogers (2004-06) made up the rotation, which was put together by UNF's former head coach Sonya Wilmoth (1997-2008) and former assistant coach (2000) and player (1998-99) Jenny Harmon.
With the end of the Ospreys' Alumni game came the completion of UNF's softball fall season and the beginning of their preparation for the 2010 spring softball season.
