Ospreys could move to second in A-Sun with sweep
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida baseball team will return home on Friday for the start of a three-game series with Atlantic Sun Conference rival Stetson at Harmon Stadium.
Friday's game is set for 7 p.m., while games on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 1 p.m. The Ospreys have won three of their last four at home and three of their last four in the A-Sun.
UNF went 1-1 during the week, beginning with a 5- 3 win over UCF on Tuesday to complete a season sweep of the Knights. Senior Mike P. Smith went 2-for-3 with a run scored and collected the game- winning RBI. Sophomore RHP Tucker Pryor picked up the win in relief after allowing just two hits in 2.0 innings. Junior closer Tyler Stohr notched his ninth save of the season.
On Wednesday night, the Ospreys had a tough time keeping up with the powerful bats of No. 1 Florida State and fell 10-2. Sophomore Preston Hale led UNF, going 2-for-4 with a double. Sophomore Kevin Martin and senior Travis Martin each recorded an RBI.
The Hatters have lost five consecutive games, including a three-game sweep at the hands of Belmont last weekend in Nashville. Stetson, which was picked to win the Atlantic Sun regular season and postseason tournament titles, is in 11th place and has won just one A-Sun series. The Hatters have a team ERA of 5.57 and are batting .294. Jeremy Cruz leads Stetson with a .411 batting average to go along with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs.
