Boise State up next for Ospreys
WICHITA, Kan. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team gave it a valiant effort against No. 69 Wichita State on Saturday but fell 4-0 on WSU's home court at the Shocker Invitational.
UNF (7-8) was shut out for just the second time this season. The loss dropped the Ospreys to 0-3 against nationally-ranked opponents.
"We didn't come out with the intensity we needed to get the doubles point from a good Wichita State team," said assistant coach Rodrigo Puebla. "We played better at singles but weren't able to finish. I am pleased with the way Vanessa (Sanchez) has been playing. It is a good way for her to finish her senior season."
Senior Vanessa Sanchez dropped the first set at No. 2 singles and gave WSU's Anna Egorova a good run but did not finish the match.
At No. 1 singles, junior Natalia Sanchez proved to be a worthy competitor for WSU's Stephanie Dalmacio, losing a close 7-5 first set. Sanchez fell behind in the second set and lost 6-2 to drop the match.
The Ospreys will wrap up the Shocker Invitational at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday against Boise State.
