UNF to face Hatters on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's basketball team will open its final weekend of the 2007-08 season beginning on Thursday night at Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson.
Tipoff is set for 8:15 p.m. Thursday in DeLand. The UNF women will square off against the Stetson women at 6 p.m., also at the Edmunds Center.
The Ospreys are coming off a strong two-week stretch during which they won a pair of games at home, forced overtime against second-place Jacksonville and went down to the wire against longtime rival Kennesaw State.
UNF knocked off Mercer last Saturday in its home finale, posting a 70-61 win for the program's first victory over the Bears in six tries.
Up next is Stetson, which the Ospreys have not beaten since joining the league three years ago and are 0-6 against all time. The Hatters have beaten UNF in overtime in Jacksonville in each of the squads' last three meetings - including a 71-69 decision on Jan. 8 this year, which also came in an extra period of play. UNF led by four points with 10 seconds to play in regulation against the Hatters in the first meeting, only to watch Garfield Blair and A.J. Smith tie the game with clutch baskets. UNF was just 21-of-41 from the free throw line in the loss.
UNF will try to snap a 47-game losing streak in games played away from UNF Arena. The Ospreys, who have never won an A-Sun game away from home, will close their season at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
