Lady Ospreys get strong afternoon from Natalia Sanchez in 6-1 loss
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team dropped its match against College of Charleston 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Lady Ospreys have struggled since posting a win in their season opener Jan. 20, losing five of their six matches since. Two of those losses have come against ranked opponents. College of Charleston is not ranked but may soon be after improving to 6-1 overall.
Natalia Sanchez provided the lone bright spot for UNF (2-5) with her wins in doubles and singles. Sanchez teamed with Carolina Melo to upend Charleston's Laura Borza and Link Leskosky 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Sanchez then defeated Chelsea Albertz 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to cap her day.
Ina Durcakova and Maria Melihova lost for the second straight match at No. 2 doubles, which marked the first two dual losses for Durcakova in her two-year Osprey career, dropping her career dual mark to 19-2.
"We had a tough loss today," UNF assistant coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We are still trying to find our best level of tennis. We need to make sure to keep working as a team and to play for the same goals. Our girls need to have a great week of practice in order to have a successful debut in our conference this upcoming weekend."
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Friday when they open Atlantic Sun Conference play against Lipscomb at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
