UNF and JU meet for second time

Cross-town rivals UNF and Jacksonville will meet for the second time this season when the Lady Ospreys travel to Swisher Gymnasium to take on the Dolphins Saturday.

UNF (11-12, 6-5 A-Sun) comes into the contest after a successful two-game trip to Nashville that saw the Lady Ospreys topple Belmont for the first time on its home court before staying a perfect 5-0 against Lipscomb with a 63-51 win. The team's 63 points at Lipscomb tied a season-high in conference play.

The Lady Ospreys will need some offensive firepower Saturday when they take on a JU (19-5, 9-2 A-Sun) squad that sits atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with both East Tennessee State and Florida Gulf Coast.

The Dolphins come into the game averaging 68.0 points a game but will have to contend with the best defense in the conference. UNF is allowing only 54.3 points a game this season.

UNF played well on the defensive end in the first meeting between the schools this year but fell victim to a drought that saw the team score only two points over a stretch of more than 18 minutes. That dry spell started in the first half and carried over until the Lady Ospreys got their offense jumpstarted, outscoring the Dolphins 17-13 over the final 7:46 of play.

Who's Hot: Jennifer Bowen averaged 20 points last week in helping UNF to its first ever sweep of Belmont and Lipscomb in Nashville ... Bowen tied a career-high with five 3-pointers in both games ... UNF outrebounded Lipscomb 21-9 in the second half and closed the game on a 14-5 run.

Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: "Swisher Gymnasium is a really tough place to play and they will be motivated after coming off a tough loss to Belmont. We will have to be focused, and our success depends on how well our guards handle their pressure.”
