Meet at Clemson last before A-Sun Indoor Championships
UNF assistant coach Julie Stackhouse looks forward to taking the teams back to her old stomping grounds. Stackhouse competed at Clemson as a freshman and sophomore, earning All-ACC honors both years. This will be the last regular season meet for the Ospreys before the Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championship on Feb. 29.
Schedule: Tiger Invitational, Friday, Feb. 15, 5 p.m. (Clemson)
Last Season: UNF did not compete in the Tiger Invitational last season.
This weekend's meet will be a good opportunity for the teams to compete against some top tier programs, such as
Who's Hot: Senior Amy Stroder continues to find new ways to contribute to the women's indoor team. This week, Stroder will be joining the distance medley and 4x400m relay teams while still competing in her usual events – the long jump and high jump.
Hillary Adams makes her first appearance of the 2008 indoor season this weekend. She will join Stroder in the new order for the distance medley team, as well as run in the 800m. Adams, a top-five contributor in cross country this past season, could be a great addition to the distance medley team. Senior Amanda Davey will be competing in the 5000m for the first time this year. Davey leads the A-Sun Conference in the 3000m this season with her career-best time of 10:14.08 and could have similar success in the 5000m, said UNF head coach Mark VanAlstyne.
On the men's side, Sammy Palmer, Nathan Holden, and Will Pearce count for three of the six UNF men that will be competing in either the 3000m, 5000m, or both events. VanAlstyne said that he expects Palmer, Holden, and Pearce to put together some top-10 performances in their respective events. The men's distance medley team looks to put up a good mark this weekend before heading to the indoor championship next week.
Notable: Keep an eye out for sophomore Anne DelBovo, as she competes in some new events this weekend, such as the 60m hurdles in preparation for the pentathlon at next week's A-Sun Indoor Conference Championship. DelBovo finished ninth in the pentathlon at last year's A-Sun Championship with 2,509 points.
Quotable:
Assistant coach Julie Stackhouse on the Tiger Invitational: “This weekend will give us a good opportunity to measure up our conference competition. With this being the last meet of the indoor regular season we really need to put up some good marks going into the conference championship next week.”
Head coach Mark VanAlstyne on the Tiger Invitational: “I'm really looking forward to this weekend. The Tiger Invitational will give us a chance to see some new competition and shape up before the A-Sun Championship. Overall this should be a really good trip for us.”
