UNF hosts Wofford at 2 p.m. on Sunday
Â
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a week of rest since its last game, the University of North Florida women's basketball team will try to flip its fortune when Wofford visits UNF Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m.
UNF (0-3) posted an impressive performance in its home opener against then-ranked No. 21 Florida State, hanging with the Seminoles for most of the contest. FSU overpowered the Lady Ospreys down the stretch to escape UNF Arena with a 60-49 win.
The latest action for UNF came at Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday. The Lady Lions built a 14-point lead by halftime, which proved to be too much for the Lady Ospreys to overcome in the second half. Despite holding Southeastern to a 14.3 shooting percentage in the second half, UNF struggled to find the bottom of the net and managed only 17 second-half points, falling 66-46.
Wofford (0-2) slipped at home in its season opener against Coastal Carolina, 67-64, before taking on North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Tar Heels exploded for just shy of the century mark in points, rolling over the Terriers, 96-42. The Terriers face Bethune-Cookman on Friday night.
Last season, UNF and Wofford faced off twice within 10 days. In the first meeting (at UNF Arena), senior Jennifer Guldager led the Lady Ospreys with 11 points and nine rebounds in a 51-42 loss. At Wofford, the Terriers upped their winning margin by five points, knocking off UNF 58-44.

Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: "Wofford is a very experience team with a lot of returning players. They are very aggressive and scrappy, and we must defend their dribble penetration. Our team is disappointed with the way the season has begun, but we continue to improve every day. Our upperclassmen need to step up now, especially on the defensive end. We have gone back to the fundamental defensive principles, and we hope to get a win before conference play begins."
Gameday Notables: UNF begins its final season of the four-year transition into Division I … the Lady Ospreys are off to an 0-3 start for the first time in program history … the Lady Ospreys have lost their first two games of the season only twice (2007-08 and 2008-09) … the Lady Ospreys are coming off their best finish since entering the transitional period, finishing with a 13-16 overall record and 8-8 A-Sun record in 2007-08 … Bowen and Guldager will steer the program once again, having been with the team through every season of the reclassification process.
Promotions: Girl Scout Day … Girl Scouts, troop leaders and parents receive free admission by registering with troop leader before the game … a special autograph session where Girl Scouts can meet their favorite players and coaches will follow the game.
