BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Kevin Aylwin shot a final round 68, but it wasn't enough to get the University of North Florida golf team out of a tie for eighth at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
The Ospreys shot a final-round team score of 288 (+8) Tuesday to remain in the same position where they started the day. For the week, UNF recorded a score of 855, which is tied for the fourth-best team score in team history for a 54-hole event. The Ospreys also shot a team score of 855 at the Adilia Intercollegiate to open the season.
“The tournament got off to a decent start for us, but we didn't take advantage of all that we could in the final two rounds,” UNF head coach Scott Schroeder said. “This tournament went pretty much like the rest of the fall went for us.”
Aylwin's final round 68 earned him a tie for 28th in the final individual standings. Jeff Dennis led the Ospreys with a tie for 15th after opening the tournament with a pair of rounds in the 60s Monday before closing with a 3-over-par 73 on Tuesday. He shot an even par 210 for the tournament to record his lowest 54 hole score as an Osprey. J.C. Horne also shot 73, while Chris Kennedy (74) and Joe Byun (75) rounded out the scoring.
The Ospreys will now take a few months off before spring play open up on Feb. 2 at the Golden Ocala Invitational.
