The University of North Florida women's basketball team will enter into an important three-game homestand on Monday when they host former Peach Belt Conference – and current A-Sun – foe USC Upstate.
The contest with the Spartans (4-15, 0-6 A-Sun) will be the first of three Atlantic Sun games at UNF Arena in a stretch of eight days for the Lady Ospreys (8-10, 3-3 A-Sun). UNF will also entertain Campbell on Saturday before playing host to Gardner-Webb on Monday.
UNF's first order of business will be trying to break a two-game losing skid. UNF dropped a 57-39 contest at EastTennesseeState on Friday night. The Lady Ospreys only scored six points in the first 10 minutes of play, fell behind by nine points in that stretch and never got any closer in their fifth-straight loss to ETSU.
The Lady Ospreys are searching for an offensive spark against the Spartans after averaging only 38.5 points their last two contests and 48.5 points in conference play.
A taste of its home court might be just what the Lady Ospreys are looking for. UNF has had a pair of three-game homestands already this season and is 5-1 in those games.
USC Upstate has not captured a win outside the state of South Carolina this year, defeating both Charleston Southern and College of Charleston on their home courts, while capturing a pair of wins at home in Spartanburg. Upstate is also looking for its first win as a member of the A-Sun after starting conference play with six-straight losses. The Spartans gave A-Sun frontrunner Jacksonville all it could handle Friday night at home, but came up just short in a 66-65 loss.
Upstate is also looking to snap a losing streak of its own. The Spartans come to UNF bearing the weight of a nine-game losing streak, not having won a contest since defeating Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 31.
