JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's soccer team dropped its fourth game of the season on Sunday falling 2 - 1 to Coastal Carolina in the last game of the UNF Classic.
UNF (1-4-1) struggled to put a shot on goal only managing seven shots, while having six corner kicks. UNF goalkeeper Rachael Howard was forced to make four saves to the Coastal Carolina keepers five.
"We were the better team statistically, however you have to give Coastal Carolina credit they were able to finish all their chances," Head Coach Linda Hamilton said. "We started a bit sluggish, but I thought we bounced back from the early goal and were able to hold our own throughout the game."
The Lady Ospreys fell behind early when Ashleigh Gunning blasted the ball past Howard in the 16th minute. Coastal Carolina dominated play for the remainder of the first half, limiting the number of touches UNF got on the ball.
The second half began very similar to the first half with Coastal Carolina getting on the board again with a Blair Monroe goal. The play started when Monroe colleceted the ball deep in the six yard box, hitting the ball over Howards head.
UNF finally got on the board in the 83rd minute, when Kady Dearing blasted a ball into the upper 90. The goal was Dearing's first of the season. The Lady Ospreys picked up the preasure for the remainder of the game, but were unable to find the equalizer.
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Sept. 18 when they head to Florida State. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
