UNF goes cold from floor in 68-45 loss
BOX SCORE
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Danny Sumner and Nathan Mann each scored 12 points to lead three William & Mary players in double figures as the visiting Tribe upended cold-shooting North Florida 68-45 at UNF Arena on Friday night.
Mann scored the first eight points for William & Mary (2- 5), which shot 43 percent for the game and won the rebounding battle, 42-31. The Ospreys (1-6) shot just 28 percent and committed 16 turnovers in falling to the Tribe for the second year in a row.
The Ospreys shot just 25 percent in the second half and hit 3-of-21 shots from 3-point range. Sixteen turnovers aided in their struggles.
"Every team goes through a shooting slump, and our team certainly is going through one right now," UNF head coach Matt Kilcullen said. "Our guys have been working hard, and we are going to come out of it soon. We are getting good shots, and sooner or later they are going to start to fall because we have too many good players on this team. I told the guys that hard work, effort and belief in themselves will help them overcome it, and I believe that."
William & Mary broke an 8-8 tie with an 18-2 run midway through the first half to take a 36-23 lead into halftime. The Tribe stretched that advantage to as many as 25 points in the second half.
Tom Hammonds led UNF with 13 points, while Justin Cecil and DeVon Jones added 10 points each. Laimis Kisielius added 11 points for William & Mary.
UNF will take next week off to focus on final exams. The Ospreys return to action on Dec. 15 at Florida A&M in Tallahassee. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
