Quoting UNF Head Coach Matt Kilcullen:
On Playing Maryland Sunday night: "This will be a tremendous opportunity to gain exposure for our University and our basketball program by playing a program that is a perennial top team in the ACC and the NCAA Tournament. Maryland has a hall of fame coach in Gary Williams and one of the most talented teams we will face this year. This game will be a tremendous challenge, but it is also a tremendous opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the country."
On playing in a national preseason tournament for the second consecutive season after playing in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic a year ago: "I think playing in tournaments of this caliber helps long term more than short term. For our guys, it has given them a chance to see some places that they otherwise might not have been able to see. Last year (at St. John's) we had a chance to go to New York, see Ground Zero, experience Times Square and see Manhattan traffic at rush hour. Now we are going to see Washington D.C. and visit the White House. We feel like these are tremendous educational experiences for our players. Those are byproducts of playing in these national tournaments."
On his team's performance against Edward Waters on Wednesday (91-92 win in double overtime): "Edward Waters really threw everything at us and came in with a game plan to win the game. Their guys played hard and proved to be a stern challenge. I thought our team handle the pressure of that situation very well. Too many times last year in the same situation, we didn't make the plays we needed down the stretch to win. In this game, we made the plays we needed to make late on both ends of the floor in order to put the game away. I give credit to our guys for how hard they worked and fought. We just need to keep working hard and improving."
