UNF drops opener of Lady Eagle Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team got a balanced scoring effort from its offense, but it wasn't enough to counter a hot shooting Southern Miss team in an 80-44 loss in the opening round of the Lady Eagle Classic.
Southern Miss (5-0) shot 53.1 percent for the game and hit 4-of-9 shots beyond the 3-point arc in the second half, while holding UNF to 30.5 percent shooting from the field.
Shandrea Moore led the Lady Osprey offensive attack with nine points, hitting 4-of-8 shots from the field. Willonda Windham followed her with eight points, while Jennifer Bowen had seven and tied Antoinette Reames with a team high five rebounds.
Pauline Love finished with a double-double for the Lady Eagles, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
UNF put up its biggest fight out of the gates in the second half, hitting three shots beyond the 3-point arc to begin the frame. Jennifer Guldager hit one of those, while Bowen and Moore sank the others. Southern Miss eventually took over and outscored UNF 40-29 in the half.
The Lady Eagles outrebounded UNF 40-31, while forcing the Lady Ospreys into 24 turnovers.
Southern Miss took a 40-15 lead into the locker room, with Love leading the way. She scored nine points in the half and led all players with six rebounds.
