JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The
University of North Florida swimming and diving teams
closed out their 2006-07 regular season with a split
against Georgia Southern and Gardner-Webb at the
UNF Aquatics Center.
UNF edged out Georgia Southern, while falling to
Gardner-Webb.
Caroline Poling swam one of the fastest times of the
year for UNF in the 100-butterfly (:59.68), capturing
a win in that event, while also helping the Lady
Ospreys to a victory in the 200-medley relay.
The Lady Ospreys started the day on the right foot,
with Poling, Monique Salles-Cunha, Emily Shaw and
Maria Bianchi leading UNF to a victory in the 200-
medley relay.
Senior Chelsea Lewis helped keep the ball rolling for
UNF with a third-place finish in the next event, the
100-freestyle. She finished that event with a time
of :54.62, before also contributing to a second-place
finish in the 400-freestyle relay.
Lewis' fellow senior, Salles-Cunha captured a second-
place finish in the 200-breastroke, with a time of
2:27.63.
It was a newcomer, however, that gave UNF the
final push it needed to overtake Georgia Southern.
Diver Emily Eisenhower - a transfer who just gained
her eligibility at UNF this semester - won both the 3-
meter and 1-meter diving competitions to give UNF a
win in its final meet of the season at home.
UNF will now prepare itself for the Pacific Coast
Swimming Championship Feb. 7-10 in Long Beach,
Calif.
