
Ospreys plow through S.C.

South Carolina State Results l Charleston Southern Results
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The North Florida men's tennis team capped a successful swing through South Carolina on Sunday, upending Charleston Southern 5-0 to finish the weekend road trip 2-0. The Ospreys also defeated South Carolina State, 4-3, on Saturday.
Against Charleston Southern (11-7), the Ospreys (13-7) captured the doubles point with wins from their bottom two doubles teams. Matias Sigal and Jose Terrera won 8-5 for UNF at the No. 2 position over CSU's Babar Ali Khan Akbar and Jonathan Dean. Eduardo Pereira and Elad Gabay also took a win at the No. 3 spot for the Ospreys, 9-8 (8) over Murat Atilla and Chris Peek.
UNF then swept the first four positions in singles play - getting wins from Pereira, Sigal, Terrera and Gabay. The teams did not finish the two remaining singles matches.
"I was very pleased with how our guys played all weekend," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "Our primary focus is going into our final week strong and putting a lot of emphasis on peforming well, especially against Troy in our final match."
Against South Carolina State (14-5), the Ospreys and Bulldogs went down to the wire. South Carolina State won the doubles point to take an early lead, but UNF got singles wins from Pereira (No. 1), Sigal (No. 2), Terrera (No. 3) and Leonardo Gomes (No. 6).
Gomes' 6-1, 6-1 win over the Bulldogs' Sergey Plotnikov clinched the victory for the Ospreys, who have won five of their last seven matches.
UNF is not eligible for postseason play this season under NCAA rules as the program transitions to Division I. The Ospreys have just two matches remaining - at home against Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 2 p.m. and at Troy on Sunday at 10 a.m.
