BATON ROUGE, La. - In a game that spanned parts of two days, the No. 17 LSU Tigers managed to pound out 20 hits in en route to an 11-1 win over the University of North Florida.
Heavy rains proved to be the only thing that could cool No. 17 LSU's bats on Friday night at Alex Box Stadium, as the University of North Florida's series-opening game with the Tigers was suspended in the fourth inning due to thunderstorms in the area. When the game resumed on Saturday, the Tigers bats were every bit as hot as the day before.
After being held scoreless on four hits through three innings, the Tiger offense heated up scoring seven runs on eight hits to take a 7-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning before rain forced the game officials to suspend the game.
When the game resumed the Tigers (1-0) pushed one more run across in the fifth inning before adding their final three runs of the game in the seventh inning.
Steven Waguespack led the Tigers with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate, while also collecting an RBI and scoring three runs. Four other Tigers collected three hits.
Senior Jacob Dixon (1-1) tossed 3.1 innings for UNF (1-2) surrendering seven runs on 11 hits, while striking out two and issuing one base on balls to suffer the loss for UNF.
LSU senior Clay Dirks tossed four innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six Ospreys to earn his first win of the season.
Senior Brennan Grogan paced the UNF offense with two hits, while junior Jon Dandridge picked up the squad's lone RBI.
