UNF falls to Georgia Tech and Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. (Jan. 30, 2005)- In its last competition before the National Independent Conference Meet , the University of North Florida Swimming and Diving team fell to both Georgia Tech and Emory on Sunday. Tech swam past UNF in a 186-106 victory, and EU defeated the Lady Ospreys 171-129.
Senior Shawna Bothwell captured UNF's lone individual win, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle. Additionally, she added a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore Julieann Watson made her presence known with second-place finishes in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard Individual Medley, also taking third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Freshman diver Amber Price's solid performance was good enough for a second-place finish in the 3 meter dive, and fourth-place in the 1 meter.
North Florida also received a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle thanks to sophomore Amanda Rutherford. Junior Christie Britt and freshman Krysten Nemecek each added a fourth-place finish, with Britt's in the 200-yard butterfly, and Nemecek's in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Bothwell, Rutherford, senior Jennifer Downing and freshman Lindsey Gatz took first, as the team made up of senior Jessica Ware, sophomores Loran Roycraft and Jenn Shields, and freshman Savannah Codd took fourth.
The Lady Ospreys will now prepare for the NIC Meet to be held in Oakland, Mich. on Feb. 23-26.
