Fernando Guillen was announced as the University of North Florida women's tennis assistant coach in Sept. 2015.
Guillen comes to UNF after a playing and coaching at Campbell. During the 2014-15 season, he was an assistant with both Campbell’s men’s and women’s tennis programs. He helped the Camels’ men’s tennis team to a runner-up finish at the Big South Championships.
Guillen had an accomplished playing career for the Camels. As a senior, he played in the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles, earning All-Big South honors in singles and runner-up finishes in both singles and doubles at the Big South Championship. During his junior season, Guillen ranked as high as No. 60 in the ITA Singles Rankings and was named the Big South Player of the Year. He defeated Elon’s No. 21 Cameron Silverman in three sets in order to earn a national ranking. In doubles, Guillen teamed with Adrien Rossignon and the duo received 2013 All-Big South Doubles recognition. During Guillen’s freshman season, he was tabbed the 2011 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team.
A native of San Louis Potosi, Mexico, Guillen played with the Mexican National Team and traveled to Europe, South America and New Zealand. His highest Mexican National Ranking was No. 2.
Guillen graduated from Campbell in May 2014 and majored in both business management and economics. He is currently pursuing his MBA from UNF.
