North Florida women's tennis senior Laurie Barendse earned a spot on the 2025 Preseason All-ASUN Team on Tuesday afternoon. This year marks the first season the Atlantic Sun Conference has announced a Preseason All-ASUNÂ Team.
"We are very excited for the honor of Laurie being named for the preseason award," North Florida women's tennis head coach Catherine Dunagan said. "She has worked incredibly hard up to this point, and I can't wait to see what she will accomplish this spring."
Barendse was a 2025 ASUN First Team All-Conference honoree and was named a two-time 2025 ASUN Player of the Week.
Barendse posted a 4-2 record in singles play in the fall, with massive victories over Florida, Florida State and Miami. Her win over Florida came against a ranked opponent inside the top 100 nationally.
The Netherlands native, Barendse, notched a 9-8 overall record with a 5-3 conference record in singles play last spring. Her nine wins on the singles side was a team high in 2025.
Barendse earned a pair of straight set sweeps against Bellarmine on March 4 and Presbyterian on March 11 to clinch her first 2025 ASUN Player of the Week distinction. She earned her second ASUN Player of the Week nod following a clutch top-court victory against North Alabama on April 13. With Barendse's win over North Alabama, UNF clinched a spot as a top two seed in the 2025 conference tournament.
In doubles play last fall, Barendse captured victories over Miami and UCF. Prior to earning her first 2025 ASUN Player of the Week honor, Barendse took victories in six of her previous seven doubles matches. Her 10 wins in doubles play was a team high in 2025. Barendse also excelled in the classroom en route to the 2025 ASUN Academic Honor Roll.
