JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball redshirt senior right-handed pitcher John Costa was named ASUN Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
"We are very excited that John is receiving this award as a result of the work he's put in this year," North Florida Pitching Coach Parker Bangs said. "Having a guy with his mindset and experience coming out of the bullpen is huge for the pitching staff and for the team. I'm looking forward to watching him continue to build on this success throughout the rest of the season."
Costa delivered three dominant appearances out of North Florida's bullpen to help the Ospreys win their fourth consecutive series to start ASUN play. Costa dealt 7.1 shutout innings and tallied five strikeouts and one win across three appearances. He allowed just three hits, one walk, one extra-base and a .130 opponent batting average across three appearances.
Coast dealt 2.1 perfect innings without allowing a hit or walk in North Florida's midweek game against Georgia Southern on Tuesday. Costa followed up with 2.0 scoreless frames and a season-high four strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk in Game 2 of North Florida's series against Queens on Friday.
In North Florida's rubber match against Queens on Saturday, Costa earned the win and shoved 3.0 scoreless innings without allowing a walk while posting one strikeout.
Costa marks North Florida's first ASUN Pitcher of the Week this season. He joins junior infielder Mathew Farner as the second Osprey to receive an ASUN weekly award in 2026.
