
Baseball Defeats West Georgia, 5-3, To Earn 20th Win, Fifth-Straight ASUN Series Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. – North Florida Baseball earned its 20th win and clinched its fifth-straight series win to open ASUN Conference action with a 5-2 victory over West Georgia in Game 2 at Cole Field on Saturday.Â

With the win, North Florida remains in first place in the ASUN Conference Graphite Division with the best record in the conference. The Ospreys have the second-most overall wins in the conference this season.

The win was propelled by a four-run seventh inning for North Florida.Â

West Georgia plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to command a 2-0 lead through the first six innings.Â

Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter Whiter led off the inning with a base hit. Senior catcher Santiago Ordonez advanced Carter to second on a fly ball to right field. The Ospreys plated all four runs with a two-out rally that started when freshman infielder Drew Buchanan plated White with a base hit through the left side to get North Florida on the board.Â

Junior infielder Mitchell Collins tied the game with an RBI double that brought home Buchanan and junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez added two more runs on a double to left field.Â

West Georgia threatened in the bottom half of the seventh inning with a leadoff double. With the tying run at the plate, freshman right-handed pitcher Devin Diggs entered the game and recorded three-straight outs to help North Florida maintained its two-run margin. Diggs earned his third save of the season.Â

Redshirt senior outfielder Tyler Gerteisen belted his second home run of the season and third of his career with a solo shot to right field to extend the lead to 5-2 in the eighth inning.Â
