
Baseball Cruises Past West Georgia To Open Weekend Road Series, 7-3

CARROLLTON, Ga. - North Florida Baseball secured a win in Game 1 of its road weekend series at West Georgia, 7-3, at Cole Field on Friday.Â
With the victory, North Florida remains in first place in the ASUN Conference Graphite Division and has at least four more wins in conference play than any other ASUN team. The Ospreys have the second-most overall wins in the conference this season.
North Florida's win in Game 1 over West Georgia was highlighted by five multi-hit performances, including two Ospreys that notched three-hit outings.
Junior infielder Mathew Farner and junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez each went 3-5 with two RBI. Farner and Gomez belted back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fourth inning to give the Ospreys a 2-0 lead.
Farner improved his team-high home-run total to 10 this season while Gomez improved his home-run total to three.
Redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey, redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White and freshman infielder Drew Buchanan rounded out North Florida's mult-hit performers. Hosey improved his hit streak to 15 games with a 2-5 outing and one RBI.
Following Farner and Gomez' back-to-back homers, West Georgia took a 3-2 lead with a three-run bottom of the sixth inning. However, North Florida responded with five unanswered runs over the next three frames.
Senior catcher Santiago Ordonez tied the game in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly.Â
Hosey delivered a clutch go-ahead RBI double in the top of the eighth frame to give the Ospreys a 4-3 lead.Â
Ordonez, Farner and Gomez all drove in one run each with hits in the top of the ninth inning to help North Florida secure the 7-3 win.
North Florida received a pair of dominant outings on the mound from redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Dakota Stone and senior right-handed pitcher Brandon Adams. Stone dealt 5.0 innings and allowed just two runs while notching nine strikeouts. Adams dealt 3.0 shutout frames out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits and one walk while posting four strikeouts.
