Baseball Falls To Georgia Southern In Tightly Contested Midweek Battle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball fell in its midweek game against Georgia Southern, 3-2, at Harmon Stadium on Tuesday.

Junior infielder Mitchell Collins led the way offensively for North Florida with a 3-4 outing and one run.

Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Kozera constructed a solid outing in the mound with four strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched. Redshirt senior right-handed pitcher John Costa delivered a strong appearance out of the bullpen as well with 2.1 shutouts innings without allowing a hit.

Georgia Southern opened the scoring with one run in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman infielder Drew Buchanan tied the game at one in the bottom of the fifth frame with a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles regained a one-run advantage in the top of the seventh inning. However, redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey delivered a clutch RBI double off the wall in right field to knot the score at two apiece. Georgia Southern plated its last run in the top of the ninth inning, bringing the score to its final margin.

Junior infielder Mathew Farner turned in a 1-4 outing at the dish. Farner has now tallied a hit in 22 of North Florida's 29 games.
