JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pair of program records fell for North Florida Track and Field to close out the River City Relays at Hodges Stadium on Friday. Â
Â
Junior Avaunt Ortiz set the program-record in the Men's 400m with a time of 46.66, while graduate student Tyrell Pierce, sophomore Matthew Groves, junior Rey Hernandez and Ortiz shattered the Men's 4x400m Relay record with a time of 3:10.63.Â
Â
"More impressive performances today to close out the River City Relays," Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Jeff Pigg said. "Katerina Natsiopoulou and Ava Wyant looked very strong in the Women's 800m after doubling back for the race. Rashad Hemissi ran a nice race in the Men's 800m leading wire to wire with a huge personal-best. Avaunt Ortiz and Tyrell Pierce crushed the Men's 400m. Avaunt and the Men's 4x400m Relay team capped off the event with new program records. It was a fantastic day for them."
Â
Sophomore Rashad Hemissi took the Men's 800m with a personal-best time of 1:50.69, while junior Katerina Natsiopoulou won the Women's 800m with a time of 2:10.77.
Â
North Florida sent its 10,000m groups to the Black and Gold Challenge on Friday at UCF Track and Field Complex in Orlando, Fla. Sophomore Madeline Castillo took the Women's 10,000m with a personal-best time of 35:25.42.Â
"Madeline Castillo crushed it tonight," Pigg added. "She improved on last season's mark by two minutes to take the win. She ran a very courageous race. She showed grit and focus. I am so proud of how she has continued to develop. "Colton Lawson and Alejandro Romagosa ran identical bests and Sebastian Hernandez is making nice progress coming off of an injury. Jayden Santos-Gonzalez ran a very nice 10,000m debut. He stayed focus patient and competed very well."
