
Baseball Falls In Hard Fought Midweek At Charleston Southern

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - North Florida Baseball fell in its midweek game at Charleston Southern, 11-6, at CSU Ballpark on Tuesday.Â
North Florida's bats were hot early, plating three runs in the first inning and one run in the fourth frame. Sophomore utility player Seth Alford notched a one-out double to right field in the top of the first inning. Junior infielder Mathew Farner drove in Alford with an RBI double to left field to give North Florida a 1-0 advantage.
Redshirt junior utility player Jackson Toberman helped give North Florida a 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White capped off North Florida's three-run first frame with an RBI base hit to right field.
Freshman infielder Jonathan Acosta scored on a wild pitch to put UNF ahead, 4-0, in the top of the fourth frame.
Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Will Ross and redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Kozera combined for 5.0 shutout innings to open the game.
Charleston Southern responded with two runs in the sixth inning and five runs in the seventh. However, North Florida displayed immense fight down the stretch.
Junior infielder Mitchell Collins crossed home on an error in the top of the eighth frame to cut UNF's deficit to 7-5. Farner then delivered his second extra-base hit and second RBI of the game with a double that brought North Florida within one run of Charleston Southern.
The Buccaneers plated their final four runs of the game in the eighth frame, bringing the score to its eventual final margin.
