Baseball Defeats Stetson 4-1 To Secure ASUN Opening Series

DELAND, Fla. – North Florida Baseball earned a series win to open ASUN Conference play when it defeated Stetson, 4-1, at Conrad Park on Sunday.Â

The Ospreys recorded 19 hits over the final two games to take the series.Â

Stetson scored its lone run in the bottom of the first inning. The Hatters registered three of its five hits in the frame. North Florida responded with a three-run fifth inning to secure the lead. Redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin opened the inning with a leadoff double before senior catcher Santiago Ordonez drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Benjamin has posted a team-high eight doubles this season.Â

North Florida then loaded the bases on a Stetson error and junior infielder Mitchell Collins drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Ospreys on the board. Junior infielder Mathew Farner drove in a pair of runs with a single to center field to give the Ospreys a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning.Â

Senior right-handed pitcher Brandon Adams turned in three no-hit innings of relief with four strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Freshman right-handed pitcher Devin Diggs closed out the final two innings to add his first save of the season.Â

North Florida added its fourth run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to secure the eventual final.Â
