No. 16 Beach Volleyball Splits Pair Of Matches To Close Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 16-ranked North Florida Beach Volleyball split a pair of matches at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.

North Florida swept Houston Christian, 5-0, and fell to host No. 2 Stanford, 4-1.

North Florida earned the sweep with straight-set wins on four of the five courts. Sophomore Natalie Villalon and freshman Samantha Crosby posted a 21-5, 21-17 win on four, while junior Cameron Humphries and senior Mackenzie Murphy turned in a 21-12, 21-12 win at the two line. The match was clinched when senior pair Andrea Da Silva Encinas and Madison Espy earned a 21-15, 21-17 win on three.

Senior Presley Murray and redshirt junior Sophia Notaro added a 21-18, 21-16 at the one line, then junior Eden Anderson and freshman Ally Bunch responded to a first-set loss to earn the sweep at the five line against Houston Christian, 18-21, 21-13, 15-12.

Two of the courts went to a third set, but Stanford clinched the match with wins at the one, two, four and five line. Da Silva Encinas and Espy earned a three-set win, 14-21, 21-17, 15-13, at the three line. Anderson and Bunch forced a third-set on five, but fell in a back-and forth final set.

North Florida returns home to The Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex to host the North Florida Invite on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.
