
Men's Basketball Defeats West Georgia, 81-73

CARROLLTON, Ga. – In a game that featured nine ties and nine lead changes, North Florida Men's Basketball earned a hard-fought road win at West Georgia, 81-73, at The Coliseum on Thursday night.Â
Senior guard Kamrin Oriol turned in 22 points, six rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes. He has turned in 20 or more points in four-straight games and 13 games this season.Â
Sophomore guard Kent Jackson added 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half, in 31 minutes. Redshirt sophomore guard/forward Mason Lee and graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman each added 10 points apiece to round out four Ospreys in double figures.Â
North Florida outrebounded its hosts 48-42 to improve to 6-1 this season when it wins the rebound margin.
Oriol drained a three at the top of the arc to give North Florida a 18-15 lead at the 10:56-minute mark of the first half. West Georgia led by one score at 26-23 at the under-eight-minute media timeout in the first half.Â
Trailing 30-23, graduate student forward Nestor Dyachok added a finish in the paint and Jackson knocked down a three to trim the margin back to one score. Oriol got foul on a three right before the first-half buzzer and knocked down a pair of free-throws to trim the halftime deficit to 37-34. Oriol led all Ospreys with 10 points in the first half.Â
North Florida retook the lead in the initial minutes of the second half on a three from Lee. Sophomore guard Dante Oliver connected on a corner three to secure North Florida a 47-44 lead at the 14:28-minute mark of the second half.Â
Tied at 51, graduate student guard Devin Hines made a pair of free throws and finished on a drive to push the lead to 55-51.Â
With West Georgia leading 66-60, North Florida responded with a 16-3 run, in which it connected on 6-7 from the field, over the next 4:11 minutes to secure a 76-69 lead with 2:05 minutes left in regulation.
North Florida made its free throws down the stretch to outlast its hosts and reach the eventual final.Â
North Florida remains on the road in Charlotte, N.C. to battle Queens (NC) at Curry Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. ET.
